Mohamed Saleh, an Egyptian young man, was driven by a residency and employment crisis in Russia to search for a way out. As his options narrowed, he chose to enlist in the Russian army in hopes of stability. Shortly afterward, he was captured and taken prisoner in Ukraine, where he now finds himself behind the bars of a Ukrainian prison—far from home, and far from the promises that never came true.
