AI Built the Burj Khalifa in ETABS — Complete Structural Model, Analysis & Design

I used ETABS Codex Assistant to model the Burj Khalifa in ETABS — from the foundation system all the way to the top of the tower.

This demonstration shows how Codex can directly interact with ETABS through MCP and the ETABS API to perform a complete, multi-step structural engineering workflow using natural-language instructions.

✓ Create the complete tower geometry from foundation to spire

✓ Generate stories, grids, structural layouts, and complex tower geometry

✓ Define concrete and steel materials

✓ Create structural sections and properties

✓ Model columns, walls, core elements, beams, slabs, and other structural components

✓ Model the foundation system

✓ Create and assign structural loads

✓ Configure mass sources and load cases

✓ Generate load combinations

✓ Run the ETABS structural analysis

✓ Review modal behavior and structural response

✓ Check displacements and story drifts

✓ Review reactions, forces, and analysis results

✓ Perform structural design operations

✓ Inspect model connectivity, assignments, warnings, and errors

✓ Modify and correct the model through Codex

✓ Execute long, multi-step ETABS workflows automatically

✓ Retrieve structured and traceable engineering results

The goal of this Burj Khalifa case study was to push the plugin beyond simple automation and test whether Codex could manage a large and highly complex ETABS project from initial modeling through analysis and design.

Where complete real-world Burj Khalifa engineering data was not publicly available, reasonable engineering assumptions were used. This demonstration should therefore not be considered the official as-built structural model of the Burj Khalifa.
